What is Spyware?

Spyware applications are programs and files that hide on your PC's hard drive without your direct knowledge. These programs allow hackers and advertising companies to track your every move, both online and even when you work offline. They can track the websites you visit, the items that you buy online, the emails you send and receive, your Instant Message dialog, and worst of all they can even record your credit card number, personal identification numbers, and all of your passwords. If you use dial-up to connect to the Internet then spyware can be used to bill 900 numbers to your phone bill. This is just a short list of the harm that spyware can cause.

Is Spyware and Adware a big problem?

There are currently over 78,000 spyware and Adware programs that are infecting innocent Internet users such as yourself through downloadable games, music, screensavers, pictures, pop-ups, emails, and the list goes on and on. Spyware and Adware can cause your PC to run extremely slow and even crash, and allow hackers and advertising companies to invade your privacy whenever they wish.

* A computer/PC infected with Spyware and Viruses normally takes about 3 hours to clean.  If this is done onsite it is charged as 3 hours because a technician would be onsite for that amount of time.  If done in my workshop the client is normally only charged one hour because numerous computers can be worked on at the same time.  Other repairs may be charged at the same time.

No Markup on Parts

All computer parts are charged the price we pay (+ shipping).  Most computer repair businesses markup parts up to double the price they paid.  At Mentor  there is no markup on any parts we replace in your computer.  You are simply charged a $35 installation fee.  We also keep common parts in stock so that you can get your computer back in a timely manner.    And parts we don't have in stock can usually be obtained within two days.

Cleaned and Stay Cleaned

There are many anti-spyware programs available for personal use.  However, none of them alone do a thorough enough job to get your computer completely clean.  And haphazardly removing files from a computer may not be the best course of action for the average user.
